Extensions of the Sydney Light Rail system - May 2000
May saw the most obvious of changes on the goods line take place,
the stringing of the Overhead trolley wire.
&nsbsp; Platform facing tiles were installed at Wentworth Park, the points
across the new junction tamped, pretty well completing the bulk trackwork.
The RTL truck was working balast trains, and a RSA tamping machine and
balast regulator have been working the line.
l; Bridge St station is probably the least advanced with the indbound
platform the least completed, the other stations proceeding into 'finishing'
stages. Bridge road overpass has had a footpath bolted to the side of it so
that potential passengers will not have to cross the busy and difficult
bridge Rd. (Sighting is bad due to the curve in the road, but the curve
isnt enough to slow motorists down...)
During the month the signals contractors were quite active with a number
of signal heads in position by the end of the month.
I would expect that by mid June they will energise the line for testing,
buy the end much of the signaling should be in place allowing systems tests
with real trams...
