July saw operational testing of the line. Bulk infrastructure was complete
and the overhead energised. Signals appeared to be complete and operating. The
construction work appeared to mainly consist of station fit out, and dismantling
of the works depot at Jubilee Park station.
During following weeks, trams were often seen on the line, running
a ghost service, with trams stopping at stations and running
to regular timings. 2101 was seen twice on the 14th, first inbound, the
half an hour later, out-bound at Jubilee Park, enough time to run to
Central and back out.
By the 3rd week of July, it appears a full ghost service
was operating on the extension. An SLR driver posted that when he was at
work on Tuesday 18th, he ran 4 trips to Lilyfield before they 'closed' the
extension in the late afternoon. On Thursday the 20th, I observed and photographed
6 of the fleet of 7 trams on the extension between Jubilee Park and Wentworth
Park. The new platform was Wentworth Park was in use, with services 'terminating'
there and then running onto Lilyfield and back empty. At the stations themselves,
Jubilee Park was having minor repairs done to the brick work. (Construction damage)
and Glebe station was being cleaned and finishing work on the fencing.
A visit on the 24th of July also showed full ghost services running,
with 6 different trams seen in the space of 1 hour, with the same pattern apparent
as the week before.
